My name is Lola and I am the owner of Superlative Gems & Glass. I came to know glass through my lovely mentor and neighbor who runs and owns Earthstar Glass. Through her generosity I discovered my new found passion for glass. I learned about the versatility of glass, and I found it had a lot in common with some other interests and passions that I have, such as leather working, rock hounding, and gemstone jewelry making. After that, I fell in love with the material.
Each beautiful glass piece was handmade and finished by me in my home studio (more commonly known as the garage), and each piece is a unique creation. Iām a stickler for details and I won't sell anything I wouldn't be happy to wear myself.
All of my glass is fused in a digitally controlled kiln to ensure stability & prevent cracking. The pieces go through many stages and numerous firings to add depth in layers or an additional touch of detailing. Each firing takes between 12 ā 18 hours to complete. Many of my pieces include dichroic glass which gives a magic sparkle to each one. Bubbles do sometimes form where air is trapped in between the glass and should these should be treated as part of the charm of the piece.
Fused glass is quite durable. While I wouldn't recommend that you throw it around, if you drop the jewelry, it shouldn't break easily (unless perhaps it's on a tiled or concrete floor from a height).
If you are wanting something special and more customized for you, just let me know. I am happy to answer any questions you have.
P.S. - Thanks to my adorable husband Cooper, who helped me with setting up my studio!
